Our Guides
The guides at Hunter's Point are all lifelong outdoorsmen....hunters, fishermen...trappers and even former Fish and Game Wardens. All are licensed guides by the State of Maine. They know the woods, are intimately familiar with Hunter's Point territory and are aware of animal movements, patterns and the ever changing seasonal natural food availability....a real key in determining how to bait bears and where to find trophy moose. Because they themselves are hunters they are very aware of hunter's needs and aspirations and offer advice and recommendations based on their own experiences and ups and downs in the field. They understand why you are there and do their best
to bring your hunt to a successful conclusion.

Wayne Ireland

|
Wayne is Eldon's brother-in-law and like Eldon he grew up in the Northernmost part of Maine and has been an outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman since he was four years old. He is 52 years old and has been a registered Maine guide for 12 years. Up until the time he married Eldon's wife's sister he had never bowhunted. Eldon introduced him to the longbow, taught him to shoot and Wayne has been hunting with Eldon ever since. The highlight of his hunting life was taking a mountain lion with his long bow in Colorado several years ago hunting with Eldon and Fred Eichler. As a native of Northern Maine, Wayne knows the country and the animals in the big woods that Hunter's Point covers. He has been successful with both gun and bow and relates very well to the needs of the clients that book with Hunter's Point. Wayne is tireless in the effort he puts in to those tasks that need to be done and he is the consummate "laid back" guide in camp. He's as easygoing as he is hard working and is the master of understatement. Wayne is employed full time as a District Manager with the Maine Power Co. which keeps him on the road when he is not guiding and offers him first hand knowledge of how the wildlife is doing. He's a good man to have in camp... knowledgeable, hardworking, dependable and likeable.

PAUL CORLISS
 |
Paul is the only guide that Hunter's Point employs who is not a Maine native. Paul lives in Vermont. He is 41 years old and works there full time as a logger so he is very familiar with the Northern New England forests and rivers. He was drawn to Northern Maine by what he describes as a "lack of true wilderness" in his home state of Vermont. He loves the vastness and wildness of Northern Maine so he takes time from his logging to join Hunter's Point each Fall partly because he just loves being in the Maine woods. He has been hunting and fishing since he was at least 10 years old. He enjoys hunting with all types of weapons and has deer, bear, turkey and moose to his credit. When assigned to a moose hunter Paul will often scour the hunting area with his camera taking pictures of bulls he encounters so that his hunter can see what specific bulls they are looking for and more importantly where they are. He has had his Guide's license for three years and has been working exclusively for Hunter's Point since that time. Paul is a tireless guy who will go the extra mile, sometimes literally, to make your hunt enjoyable and successful.

JEFFERY JANDREAU

|
Jeff is the newest guide at Hunter's Point. Jeff is a 35 year old who has lived his entire life in and around Portage Lake. He remembers beginning hunting and fishing since he was old enough to walk. Being a native to the area he is intimately familiar with every aspect of the big woods and the animals that inhabit Hunter's Point area. He hunts, fishes, traps and basically lives the outdoor life offered by the resources of the area. Jeff describes himself as a "trophy whitetail hunter"....a really difficult way
to hunt in that part of the country. The deer herd is not dense at all compared to other parts of the country or even other parts of Maine. However, the challenge and sense of accomplishment he feels when he does succeed are more important to him than how many deer he harvests. His pursuits as a trophy hunter make his attention to detail and his understanding of what it means to be successful unique. His knowledge and attitude should be a welcome addition to Hunter's Point's efforts to offer you the best of what Northern Maine has to offer. Jeff has had his Guide's license for two years and took his first bear with Eldon when he was 16 years old. Jeff is related to Eldon but describes the family ties as
"distant" rather than "close". He is looking forward to working with the clients at Hunter's Point.

Chuck Booth
 |
|
Chuck is both a friend and guide for Hunter's Point. His own description of his background and relationship with Eldon speaks for itself and is also a testament to the kind of experience that each hunter can expect when they book a hunt with Hunter's Point.
My name is Chuck Booth, Outfitter and Guide living in Texas. I met Eldon Jandreau in 1988 while stationed at the Air Force Base near Caribou, Maine. We would shoot in archery tournaments and I would hang out at his taxidermy studio whenever time would allow. Eldon and I would float rivers and streams or run to the big woods to scout for bear and moose and then make it back just in time to open the shop to take care of the taxidermy business. Eldon obviously saw something in me that I didn’t and convinced me to get a Maine Guide’s license. I had baited with him for a couple of years before that and how he convinced me to get a guides license after 12-14 hours a day baiting is beyond me. One year we put out over 75,000 pounds of bait on over 100 bait sites in a 72 square mile area in the big woods and other places he gathered over the years. After a 6 months guides course, $78 and a little luck I passed top of the class. I guided for Eldon for several years while living up there and when the USAF decided to send me to AK for an assignment I left. I have since lived in ID and TX and each year I try to get back up to Portage Lake, ME to guide for moose, bear and whitetail with my best friend Eldon. Some years it’s more of a working vacation and I end up hunting bear and moose with him. One year I was selected to paddle his canoe to hunt moose, 6 days worth of paddling him and a video cameraman. He had other guides taking care of other moose hunters that week, but his mind was on them and not his hunt. During the 6 days we hunted we found a moose for one of his rifle hunters, hauled out another moose for one of his other hunters and made sure the third moose hunter got his with a bow. We finally got his 50 inch bull on the second to the last day of that week and I never worked so hard and had some much fun at the same time. I have worked for several Ranches in TX and other outfitters around the US and have found no one with more drive and motivation to ensure his hunters have the premiere hunt they paid for. I would not travel that far and work that hard for anyone else. Eldon Jandreau is an outstanding outdoorsman, excellent traditional archer and a great family man. We have hunted around US together and several hunts have been great, but only because Eldon was there to smooth things over or see an avenue the outfitter didn’t. Eldon is absolutely the best outfitter I know of.
