I, as well as my companions, have loved the two hunts I've been on and will never consider another bear guide in Maine other than you. Your hospitality, accommodations and your fun attitude, and oh yes, the bear hunting also, is what sets you aside from the rest.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of guiding Eldon Jandreau on a whitetail bowhunt in Montana. The first day of his hunt, I noticed he left for his treestand with only one arrow. I asked him where his quiver was. He said, "I have an arrow." I said, "Don't you ever miss?" He said, "Not yet! You still like me don't you?" That is Eldon Jandreau.
I have known and hunted with Eldon multiple times over the last twenty years. My Maine moose hunt with him is a very special memory. He is not only a skilled woodsman, superb shot and unequalled bowhunter, but a great guy to be around in the outdoors. His enthusiasm, forsight and sense of humor makes any hunt with him a real pleasure and memorable experience. I highly recommend spending time with him.

Eldon Jandreau is an outstanding outdoorsman, excellent traditional archer and a great family man. We have hunted around US together and several hunts have been great, but only because Eldon was there to smooth things over or see an avenue the outfitter didn’t. Eldon is absolutely the best outfitter I know of.

Eldon has been a great outfitter all four times I have hunted with him. I have always seen nice bears and could not be treated better by any outfitter. Not only is Eldon a great guy to hunt with but all of his guides have been so accommodating as well. I hope to return again this year (2010) to enjoy Eldon's operation again. As long as I can hunt with him I would not look elsewhere.

Friends, Eldon is the hardest working, no excuses, never give up outfitter there is. He runs excellent success on his bear hunts which are accessible and affordable to most bowhunters no matter what yourskill level is. Eldon's moose hunts are the best value and the best hunting there is. Many people do not realize this but you will see at least five times more moose on your hunt for moose with Eldon, than you would on any other Canadian or Alaskan moose hunt of equal time length. Eldons level of woodsmanship and what he brings to a hunt will make you a better bowhunter.

Eldon Jandreau and the guides who work with him really go the extra distance to make sure your hunt is enjoyable and successful. They accommodate hunters' various needs and make your success a top priority. I am quite sure Eldon was every bit as excited about my taking my first bear as I was. If you are interested in hunting black bears in Maine, I highly recommend Hunter's Point Guide Service.

I have known Eldon for about 10 years. First as a guide and then as a friend with whom I was able to share a caribou hunt with in 2004. Although Eldon is a super guide I would prefer to comment on his character and that of his guides. My wife wanted to take up bow hunting and decided that she would like to kill a bear for her first hunt. She and I went up to Eldon's on the first week of the season when Hurricane Katrina swept in on us. The constant heavy rain cost us 3 days of hunting. Because the hunt was essentially cut in half Eldon offered an additional 3 day hunt to anyone who did not kill a bear that week for no charge. I got a bear on Friday and Laura went home with me without her bear. She was able to return for the last 3 days of the season but I was not able to be with her due to other family obligations. Laura decided to go it alone. She would probably be the only women in camp, but that is where my trust and confidence in Eldon came into play. I knew he would take care of her, keep her safe and look out for her best interests. She did take her first bear during the last hour of the last day and when she returned to town to the local restaurant for dinner that evening the whole town....at least those that were there....gave her a standing ovation. That is the nature of Eldon and the climate of his camp and the character of the people of Portage Lake, Maine. Not only will Eldon welcome you and make sure you have a good hunt, the townspeople will also be hospitable and gracious. It will be a unique experience and Eldon will keep you laughing and you will feel at home there.

My own personal success rate is 50%....3 bears for six hunts. However, I have had 100% opportunity on each hunt....even when things were slow. There are always active baits and Eldon and his crew will do everything that they can to make sure you get your chance at taking a bear.
